Phil Hintz is the Chief Technology Officer for the Niles Township School District 219. Phil has led the charge for his district to develop and implement Student Data Privacy systems in the State of Illinois and has presented nationally on these protocols and processes. Phil has served in the CIO and CTO role for school districts for over 20 years. On the national stage, Phil has presented at Tech and Learning Magazine’s School CIO Summits and is an avid new technology reviewer and judge and has written several columns for Tech Learning Magazine and School CIO Leadership. Phil has also presented workshops for the national ISTE and FETC conferences, RTM Delegate Groups, IDEACon, LearnFest ATX (formally known as iPadpalooza) in Austin, Texas, at the CUE Conference in California, and internationally at the BETT Conference in London, England.
In June of 2015, Phil was ISTE’s Outstanding Leader of Year Award, which was highlighted and presented at the annual ISTE conference. In 2016, Phil made the list of the National School Boards Association’s top “20 to Watch” in educational technology for 2016. In 2019, Phil was awarded the Withrow CTO of the Year award by CoSN. In June of 2022, Phil was the winner of Tech & Learning Magazine’s Innovative Leader Award for Best Implementation of Data Privacy. Phil is a Thought Leader for CoSN (Consortium of School Networking) and provides mentorship for early career CTO’s.
Currently, as a life-long learner, Phil is progressing on his Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership where he is completing his dissertation research on the impact of AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) on students with intellectual disabilities in learning life and occupational skills. Phil’s preliminary research was recently featured in Tech & Learning Magazine for his work in these important technological advances for inclusive education.
