Superintendent
San Ramon Valley Unified School District
Danville, California
Dr. John Malloy became the Superintendent at the San Ramon Valley Unified School District in July 2020 after having served as the Director of Education (Superintendent) at the Toronto District School Board in Toronto - the largest school board in Canada. John has an extensive background in education at all levels and is a fierce advocate for an equitable, accessible, quality public education.
John has taken his vision for learning and student engagement to new heights in SRVUSD. He led the District to adopt their Strategic Directions, which now guide the definition of student success built upon the existing foundation of academic excellence.
With a deep understanding of how SRVUSD’s Strategic Directions guide student success, especially through a Culture of Responsiveness and Shared Leadership, John prioritizes student voice. He spends time at schools, in classrooms and with student leadership groups, ensuring that students have space to share their stories and insights, and that all of the District’s work is guided by the experience and expertise of students, staff, parents/caregivers and the wider community.
John believes that together we can build positive school and workplace cultures that support mental health and well-being, are free of bias, and full of potential. By strengthening relationships and building strong partnerships, students will develop curiosity, confidence and independence. When our students’ needs are supported, learning and well-being will improve.
