Dr. Charles is an Educator and Research Data Scientist who has over 10 years of experience in Telecommunications, Defense and Technology industries as well as over 22 years in K-12 public education Administration. He has a passion for the use of technology in transforming the teaching and learning experiences of students and staff. Dr. Charles worked to leverage his expertise in Machine Learning to the efficient registration of image datasets using patches. His experiences also include work as an Adjunct Professor at both the University of Colorado’s and the University of Denver’s Colleges of Education and Engineering & Sciences programs, respectively. He has successfully led teams of students and teachers in designing research experiments and solutions for NASA astronauts to be flown on the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a research effort to mitigate problems faced by the ISS crew. As part of his work, Dr. Charles has developed and flown various experiments in microgravity aircrafts using parabolic arcs to simulate weightlessness. He also served on the Board of Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum.
Dr. Charles is a product of the NYC Public School system and received his Bachelor’s degree in Pure Mathematics from the City University of New York, and his Master’s and PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a licensed Teacher and Administrator in the state of Colorado and is serving as the Chief Information Officer for Denver Public Schools. He is also a Certified Executive Coach through Columbia University’s Teachers College. Dr. Charles is committed to making a difference in the lives of students and communities through the use of Information Technology and Instructional Technology. His current research agenda includes the equitable advancement and transformation of field of Education through the use of Artificial Intelligence.
